The Two Events That Turn a Wedding Day Into a Wedding Weekend

Most couples plan one event: Saturday.

The couples who end up loving their wedding weekend most plan three. Saturday is the big one, obviously. But the Friday welcome party and the Sunday brunch are the ones people talk about months later, because that's where the actual hanging out happens.

Here's how both work at Bellagio Fields.

Friday: the welcome party

Your guests have been driving. Some came from New Jersey, some from Philly or North Jersey, some just got off work. The last thing anybody wants is to check into a hotel alone and wait for tomorrow.

A welcome party fixes that. It's casual, it's early, and it's over by a reasonable hour.

What it looks like here: everyone staying in the villa is already on property. Guests coming in for the evening pull up to 70 acres as the sun's going down over the Sugarloaf Mountains. Food is simple, drinks are easy, and nobody's in formalwear.

Why it's worth doing:

  • You get real conversation with people you'll only wave at tomorrow

  • Everyone meets each other before the wedding, so Saturday feels warmer

  • Your out-of-town guests feel taken care of instead of stranded

  • Your photographer catches the loose, candid stuff you can't stage

Keep it simple. This isn't a second reception. A fire, some food, drinks and music is plenty. The point is that it's low-key.

One rule: end it early. Ten o'clock. You're getting married tomorrow.

Sunday: the day-after brunch

This is the one couples skip and then regret.

By Sunday morning, the pressure is gone. You're married. The vendors are packed up. And you're sitting with coffee next to the people who matter most to you, nobody rushing anywhere.

What it looks like here: the villa sleeps up to 30, so your family and wedding party wake up on property. Nobody checked out of a hotel at 11. Nobody drove home at midnight. You come down, eat, open a few gifts, walk the grounds, and say goodbye when you're actually ready.

Why it hits different:

  • It's the only time all weekend you're not on a schedule

  • Your parents and grandparents get real time with you

  • The photos from a brunch are some of the best of the whole weekend, because everyone's relaxed

  • The goodbyes are warm instead of rushed

Keep it loose. No seating chart, no toasts, no timeline. Set the food out, let people drift in.

The thread between them

Friday builds the room. Saturday is the celebration. Sunday lands it.

You can't get that from a venue you rent for eight hours. You need a place where your people can stay, and that's what we built here: 70 acres, a villa that sleeps 30, an outdoor ceremony space, a reception building with a patio, and room to breathe between all three.

Planning a wedding?

If you're getting engaged this holiday season, you're already thinking about dates. Good weekend dates here go early, especially in fall.
